Ray Kelly, longtime President of the Angeles Group, passed away on Saturday, December 15. When Angeles was purchased in 2006 by Excelligence Learning Corporation, Ray continued to focus his attention on the development of new products for the Angeles brand, bringing his uncompromising standards for quality, durability and play value.
Since the company’s beginning in 1958 in Los Angeles, Angeles has developed an ever-growing line of high quality products for use in early childhood classrooms. Ray Kelly moved the company to Pacific, Missouri, in the mid-eighties, greatly expanding the original product offering and also the company’s distribution from the U.S. to Asia , Australia and Europe.
Ray’s entrepreneurial spirit and insight into the needs of early childhood educators and young children lead Angeles to become a leader in the early childhood community. Ray was a well-respected businessman in his own industry and beyond; he was named Missouri Small Business Person of the Year in 1993 in a ceremony in the Rose Garden of the White House.
Ray Kelly’s leadership at Angeles over the last two decades has provided the strong foundation that he envisioned would enable the brand to evolve with the changes affecting early childhood education. His contributions benefited not only Angeles, but the entire early childhood community.
